If you visit Dubrovnik for more than a couple of days and ask a local person for a recommendation, you will most likely hear about the Elafiti Islands, among other things.

The Elafiti archipelago, within easy reach of Dubrovnik, is a collection of 13 islands, all true examples of classic Mediterranean scenery with forest-covered hills, picturesque villages, and gorgeous sandy and pebble beaches.

Elafiti archipelago include islands called Daksa, Koločep, Sveti Andrija, Lopud, Ruda, Šipan, Mišnjak, Jakljan, Kosmeč, Goleč, Crkvine, Tajan and Olipa.

Only three Elafiti islands are inhabited (Šipan, Lopud, and Koločep).

Postira passenger boat sailing near daksa island

The passenger ship M/B Postira usually maintains line no. 807 (Dubrovnik - Koločep - Lopud - Suđurađ). This ship from the Jadrolinija fleet was built in 1963 in the Uljanik shipyard.

The ship's passenger capacity is 380 people, so there is plenty of room to get to the islands.

Travel Duration

This Dubrovnik to Elafiti islands passenger ferry line trip takes approximately an hour and 15 minutes to reach its final destination. It reaches Koločep after 30 minutes and Lopud island after an hour.

Ticket Price

The ticket price is the same when leaving from Dubrovnik, no matter what island you are getting off on. A return ticket costs about €4 from Gruz to any of the islands – Lopud, Kolocep, or Šipan- a steal! The price is a bit cheaper when hopping between islands.

The longest points on the line are between Suđurađ on Šipan island and Dubrovnik.

Car ferry line no. 831

The car ferry line is also run by Jadrolinija. You will usually find ferry Hanibal Lucić running this line. It can fit 35 vehicles and 360 passengers.

The ticket cost is HRK 31 per person (HRK 15 for children).

If you want to take your car to Šipan, you can use this car ferry. Šipan is the only island of the three where cars are permitted. A ticket to get a typically sized car onboard will cost you HRK 166.

Europa boat

If you missed Postira, you should know that there is a smaller boat called Europa that goes twice a day in the offseason and three times a day in the season.

Ticket sales are available directly on board the Europa, which leaves Dubrovnik from the Gruž port, just across the open-air market.
Europa boat line was established to help inhabitants of Gornje čelo to help locals commute to Dubrovnik.

The boat stops at Koločep Gornje Čelo, Koločep Donje Čelo port and Lopud port.

For non-residents of the island, the ticket price is HRK 20 one-way. The passenger ship "Europa" has a capacity of 63 passengers.

Vivado Dubrovnik - regular boat lines

It's important to remember that the Elafiti Islands are popular among tourists and locals during July and August. Unfortunately, ticket availability is limited, so book early if you don't want to miss your desired departure.

people staniding in a long boarding line to the Elafiti ferry

Attempting to visit all three of the Elaphite Islands in one day can be tricky due to how infrequent the ferry timetable is. There is simply not enough time to island hop between the islands and have time to enjoy the islands, so you need to pick one or two.

I recommend you visit Lopud. Lopud had a pleasant walking trail that gets you across, ending at Sunj on the other side of the island, a beautiful sandy beach.

Whenever I speak to travelers that have visited the three islands by themselves or on an organized tour, everyone describes it as magical. Islands are all close to one another; the ride was spectacular, exploring these islands, walking through forest trails, and taking a dip in the sea wherever possible.

It makes for one heck of an adventure. I suggest this be on everyone’s bucket list when in Croatia.
